Tennis Day

Sunday 8 February

The inaugural Tennis Day was held at Monash Sport Clayton over the weekend, with 25 participants taking part, despite the dreary conditions (which were much welcomed after Saturday’s record breaking heat).

Participants came from the wider Monash community with a range of staff, alumni, members, casual users and public turning up to take part in the activities.  The five dollar entry fee provided participants with a tennis racquet, prizes, speed gun for the fastest serve competition, a healthy barbeque, and a tennis coach from the Monash University Tennis Club to help participants with some coaching tips.

This event symbolises the growth of tennis at Monash Sport and hints at a sign of things to come, with more activities and programs planned from the success and enjoyment of participants on the day.

For Salman Saeed, student at Caulfield campus, this marked his first trip to the Clayton campus after seeing the event advertised on the Monash Sport web site. Saeed commented that “it was a wonderful day despite the rain, I really enjoyed the fastest serve and the target practice”

Chris Dixon, who helped organise the event would like to extend a thankyou to all involved. “On behalf of everyone involved here at Monash Sport we'd like to sincerely thank you very much for your attendance at the inaugural Monash Sport Tennis Day. Whilst the day was somewhat compromised by the rain it was still great to see so many people come down to have a hit of tennis and we hope to see you around the tennis courts in the coming weeks!”

To anyone who missed out and would like to get involved court hire is available and keep checking the Monash Sport website for future updates.
