Improving the State of Play

As the centre of active lifestyles for Monash students and staff, it is fitting that the sporting facilities of Monash University meet the high standards set by Monash University research in health and fitness. It is for this purpose that our health and fitness hubs at Caulfield, Clayton and Peninsula have undergone a vast amount construction and development to improve these facilities.

Take a closer look at the new and improved facilities across all our campuses!

Caulfield

With the Caulfield health and fitness centre now twice the size than its previous state after renovations expanded the gymnasium, a selection of brand new equipment has also been installed for this great new space.

In addition to the new dedicated functional strength training (TRX) area, you can now enjoy new cardio equipment in the expanded cardio zone as well as leg exercise machines and a new Smith machine and squat rack.

Clayton

  • The twin storey health and fitness centre has been reinvigorated with an enhanced, user friendly layout. The aim of these works was to create a welcoming and inclusive environment whilst increasing usable gym floor space. Natural light has been drastically increased and the gymnasium looks fantastic!
  • At the Doug Ellis swimming pool, the 25m 6 lane main lap pool and adjoining leisure pool has been retiled.
  • All 5 indoor sports courts at Clayton have been resurfaced. This has allowed for an additional four badminton courts to be added to the Recreation Hall.
  • A new informal, synthetic surfaced outdoor soccer pitch and basketball court has been built in place of tennis courts 9 & 10 at Clayton. This area is free for student use around the clock, and can be found at the existing tennis court complex.
  • Martial Arts hall has be expanded and new flooring laid.
  • New, relocated group cycle studio.

Peninsula

Health and fitness on the Peninsula will take a leap forward when Monash Peninsula Activity and Recreation Centre (MPARC) launches in time for semester 1, 2012. This $12.8 million dollar, purpose built, three storey facility will truly centralise healthy and active lifestyles on the Mornington Peninsula.

The building will feature a new gymnasium space open to the public, which will be approximately 70m2 larger than our current space, and a group fitness room and group cycle studio next door to make access easier for all users. New cardio equipment on order will see new treadmills, bikes and elliptical cross trainers plus the unique Adaptive Motion Trainer (AMT) feature as part of our expanded space.

A twin court, multipurpose stadium with dual upstairs viewing platforms will feature within MPARC suitable for basketball, badminton, netball, futsal and many more.Keep an eye out for an expanded social sport competition and court hire launching with MPARC. In addition MPARC will feature an exercise physiology lab and a movement and performance studio.
