Monash University had the priveledge of hosting the Socceroos at the Clayton campus on Monday, in preparation for tonight’s Asian Cup Qualifier against Oman. In a closed training session, which was only announced an hour prior, the crowd and media still came out in large numbers to support the national team.
It was important for the squad to go through their paces on the soft Monash pitch to recover from their gruelling defensive display against the Netherlands on Saturday night.
The team will be desperate for a win against Oman who sits first on the table in group B with four points while Australia are bottom with one point.
The training session underlined the growing sporting prestige that Monash is building with the growing partnership with Melbourne Victory, the AFL umpires as well as nurturing many other elite sportspeople.
Oman also trained at Monash yesterday, to prepare themselves for a stern test tonight at Etihad stadium. The team was very thankful for Monash Sport who ensured the session ran smoothly.
“Thank you to the staff out there for your assistance yesterday with
the Oman team at such short notice. It was very much appreciated by FFA, the team, and the Consulate General,” Football Federation Victoria spokesperson, Chris Bambridge said.
