MUSC Swimmers Shine in Tassie

A team of 8 swimmers recently represented the Monash University Swim Club at the Tasmanian 11 and Under and Open Championships held at The Hobart Aquatic Centre, from 24 to 26 January.

At the conclusion of the three day event the final medal tally of 16 included 9 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze. This was an outstanding performance by the 9 swimmers. Also worth mentioning, all junior swimmers aged 11 and under set personal best times.

Top performances over the weekend came from 18 year old Matthew Lyons who won three individual gold medals in the 200m butterfly, 200m individual medley and 400m individual medley.

MUSC Swimmer Jarryd Grooby had an outstanding race meet winning two gold medals in the boys 11 and under 50m breaststroke and the 50m freestyle. Grooby also claimed two individual silver medals in the 50m backstroke 100m freestyle.

Other medal winners during the event included Fabien Bouchereau who won himself a silver medal in the boys 11 and under 50m butterfly. Daniel Chia claimed bronze in the men’s 200m backstroke. Bronze also went to Teagan O’Callaghan in the girls 11 and under 50m butterfly.
