Monash University, Swim Club of the Year

Tuesday 28 October

As part of the 2008 Telstra Swimmer of the Year Awards, Monash University Swim Club was awarded the ‘Australian Unity Swim Club of the Year’ for 2008.

Monash finished in the top three clubs last year, this year finishing ahead of Melbourne VicCentre, Nunawading and Redcliffe to take out the top prize.

The award recognizes the strong membership growth of Monash University Swim Club, its focus on health and wellbeing of swimmers, sound financials and performance at the Australian Age and Open Championships.

Over the past year Monash University Swim Club, in conjunction with Monash Sport have strengthened the coaching resources and have built a strong national level squad, with world class swimmers such as Tay Zimmer.

Club committee members Rob Dehaini and Michael Dever were present at the awards night to accept the award. Monash University Swim Club will now receive a trophy and $5000 from Australian Unity for their efforts.

This would not have been possible without the support of Monash University, the hard work by the past and present committee and the drive and motivation from head coach Ross Price and development coach Grant Watson.
