Monash University Team in the Mother's Day Classic Run / Walk

A huge team of 258 people from Monash University participated in the Mother’s Day Classic run / walk on Sunday 14th May. Very light showers throughout the morning did not stop the fun and activity.

Project team leader Briony Schofield from Monash Sport said, "It was fantastic to see Monash people being active together whilst wearing Monash University t-shirts and singlets. There were smiles on faces and many people spending time with family and friends on Mother’s Day at the event."

38 people ran 4km and 43 completed the 8km run. 114 chose to walk 4km and 63 participated in the 8km walk.

Amongst the Monash University team were 90 staff members, 45 students, 25 Alumni, 78 family and 36 friends. 7 volunteers provided services for the team at the Monash University marquee.

47 of the team participants were mothers themselves and were given a Mother's Day card at the Monash University marquee. Donated gifts were also distributed to mothers by volunteers on the day, a surprise which made these mum’s very happy.

All proceeds from the Mothers Day Classic were donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, a not for profit organisation that promotes and supports research into breast cancer prevention and treatment.

The next Community fitness events in which there will be a Monash University team coordinated are the Melbourne marathon and around the bay in a day cycling events in October.
