Monash University Commonwealth Games Athletes

Three Monash University Students have been selected to compete in the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne this March. David Zalcberg will be competing in table tennis and Jacinta Hamilton in basketball. Monash University full blue awardee and gold medalist at the Australian University Games in 2003, Brenton Rickard, will be competing in Swimming.

These students are all a part of the elite student athlete support program. This allows them to access assistance in balancing their sport and study commitments.

Five Alumni will also represent Australia in these Commonwealth Games. Sprinter Lauren Hewitt will be competing in athletics. 2004 Monash Sport male athlete of the year Travis Brooks, will compete in hockey. Another hockey player, University Games coach and Captain, Rosie Hooper changed sports with much success and will now be throwing a javelin in athletics at the games. Gold medalist at the Australian University Games, 2004 female athlete of the year and full blue awardee Rosanna Ditton, will be competing in athletics (pole vault). Netballer Janine Ilitch is a Monash Sport Hall of Fame inductee and has made a comeback to the sport for the Commonwealth Games.
