Australian Wheelchair Rugby team train at Monash
The Australian Wheelchair Rugby team recently had a squad training at Monash University Clayton campus to prepare for the upcoming Oceania Championships.
The championships, held in Sydney, will be the qualifying event for the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games where Australia, New Zealand, China, Japan, South Africa and Korea will battle it out to win the qualifying spot for our region.
Wheelchair rugby is a team sport for male and female quadriplegics. The sport is colloquially known as murder ball.
The object of the game is to carry the ball across the opposing team's goal line. Two wheels must cross the goal line for a goal to count, and the player must have firm control of the ball when they cross the line.
Australian team is currently ranked 6th in the world.
