The University Blues volleyball team’s 2009 Australian Volleyball league campaign gets underway in Brisbane this weekend.

The team, which comprises of both Monash University and University of Melbourne players, will face their first challenge when they take on 2008 champions, the Australian Institute of Sport on Saturday October 17 in Brisbane.

“Preparation has been quite intensive over last few training sessions”, said team manager KC Chong.  “The team are pumped and ready to go!”

This year the University Blues will be attempting to improve their ranking after an impressive third placing in last year’s competition behind the AIS and QAS Pirates.

“The AIS traditionally has a strong team and QLD produces some of the strongest volleyball players in country so we will have some tough matches ahead of us”, said KC.

“Our team is up to the task and we will be looking toward the finals.  The first round is all about sussing out the competition so we’ll go from there” KC said.

The team will then go on to face Volleyball WA and the QAS Pirates who knocked the Blues out of the grand final in last year’s competition before progressing to the second round to be held in Canberra on October 30.
