Event Information
The Portsea Swim Classic is one of the largest open water swims held in Australia. This swim covers 1.2Km and was held on Saturday 20th January 2007 at the Portsea Front Beach, Nepean Highway, Portsea (Melways Ref 156 E2). The event attracts up to 2,500 swimmers in age groups from 12-17 right through to 60+ with past winners include some of the greats of Australian swimming.
All fundraising generated from the Portsea Swim Classic event goes to ensuring the survival of volunteer Surf Life Saving Clubs like Portsea and providing adequate services to the community in the future. Portsea Surf Life Saving Club is one of Australia’s largest and most respected Surf Life Saving Clubs, providing volunteer rescue and surveillance services to the community on one of the world’s most notorious and dangerous stretches of beach. Since the founding members first set up patrol, Portsea SLSC members have been responsible for saving over 5,000 lives, as a direct result of the Club assisting over 1,600 young men and women to gain the Surf Life Saving Australia's coveted Bronze Medallion. The Portsea Back Beach is patrolled by volunteer lifesavers from Portsea Surf Life Saving Club every weekend from December through to Easter.
In addition to the Monash Sport support, each competitor received from the race organisers, a souvenir t-shirt, swim cap, certificate and race sponsor products.
