Mothers Day Classic

More than 1000 TeamMONASH™ participants joined a 30,000 strong crowd for the annual Mothers Day Classic fundraising walk/run around the Melbourne Botanical Gardens held on Sunday 11 May 2008.

Starting on St Kilda Road in the Melbourne CBD, the route took walkers and runners through the beautiful, scenic botanical gardens. Participants who entered as part of TeamMONASH™ could choose between the:

  • 4km walk
  • 4km run
  • 8km walk
  • 8km run

This event is the biggest community fundraising event for breast cancer in Australia, giving people the chance to make a real difference to the lives of those diagnosed with breast cancer.

Approximately $18,000 was raised by walkers and runners from TeamMONASH™.

TeamMONASH™ took home awards for the largest tertiary team in Victoria and the largest tertiary team in Australia. Part of the second prize included $1,000 of prize money which TeamMONASH™ proudly donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

The TeamMONASH™ Support Crew, a group of 50 volunteers, came in before the sun rose to assist in the setup of the TeamMONASH™ marquee and to make sure everything was ready for the participants.

Upcoming events for TeamMONASH™ are the Melbourne Marathon on 12 October and the Around the Bay in a Day bike ride on 19 October 2008.

Volunteering - Can you lend a hand?

As a member of the TeamMONASH™ Support Crew you have the opportunity to enjoy the fun and the experience of the Mothers Day Classic without even raising a sweat.

All volunteers receive a certificate, an official Support Crew t-shirt, and access to the TeamMONASH™ marquee on the day.

If you are interested in volunteering, we have a number of events throughout the year. The next events are the Melbourne Marathon and Around the Bay in a Day bike ride.
