Around the Bay in a Day 2006Event Wrap Up15th October 2006 Ably supported by Monash volunteers Monash cyclists completed ride distances ranging from a leisurely 42km, including a crossing of the Westgate Bridge, to the gruelling 250km out through Geelong, Portarlington on the Bellarine peninsula and back up the Mornington peninsula through Sorrento and Frankston. Whatever the distance chosen 42, 100 ,210 or 250km all riders and volunteers are to be congratulated on taking on the challenge. In total Team Monash covered an impressive 40,560 kms, enough to take the team around the equator or to visit all of Monash University's international campuses (via a route of Melbourne - Johannesburg - Kings College - Prato - Kuala Lumpur - return Melbourne) Of special note is the fact that the Team Monash profile comprised 38 per cent women, well above the standard 19 percent female demographic reported by Bicycle Victoria. Faculty of Medicine took line honours for the greatest percentage of Student / Staff participation, narrowly beating Faculty of Education who offered a strong challenge. From a campus perspective while Clayton had the largest base to draw from, Peninsula campus rose to the occasion with over 47 participants. > Download Monash Team Profile (16K, Adobe Acrobat .pdf format) A special note of thanks goes to the volunteers, whose efforts, outstanding support and smiles made the day so much more enjoyable for riders. All up it proved to be a fantastic day, with many highlights and some great memories and opportunities for photographs. So to sum up there is only one thing to say, start your training for another fun and fantastic day 2007!
